1 – bullying (48)
Again he felt a fist meeting his gut, he gasped for air and swayed, but he didn't make any try to protect himself; he had learned quickly that to be God's messenger meant that he had to deal with a lot of bullying from people who didn't understand.

2 – tears (21)
Smith noticed tears in Kurdy's eyes, desperation mixed up with anger, and he didn't need to ask; Elizabeth was gone forever.

3 – hospital (92)
When Marcus had told Erin that he planned to take care of all the people who were looking for shelter in the Mountain she had promised to help him; first she did build up a place for the children, a place where they could learn to laugh and to play again; next was a hospital; though most of the medical knowledge was gone down with the old world, Erin knew, in particular, sick and hurt people needed something they could hold on onto while the chaos ruled in the world around them.

4 – caring (102)
Smith couldn't turn away his eyes from the little baby in her bed; it was only one week taht he had found out about the existence of his daughter, and the thought to leave her alone again was heartbreaking; a light touch on his arm tore him out of his thoughts and when he looked up he met the warm and friendly eyes of Sister Hannah; the old nun smiled slightly while she told him:“We all are apart of God's plan; you are his messenger; my place is here, at school, to take good care of Rose and all the other children.“

5 – tissue (46)
„What's that,“ Smith asked curiously; carefully Kurdy unfolded the soft tissue to show him the petite ballet dancer made out of glass, he had found in the back of a cabinet in an abandoned house and he said:“Elizabeth's birthday is next week, she will love this.“

6 – desperation (87)
Smith was standing on the small, wooden bridge for hours now, staring down onto the lake; the water so dark and for sure cold seemed to call him, promising eternal peace; he felt too tired to fight any longer, was so sick of it to be alone without at least some memories of a better past; no one would miss him when he was gone, no one would morn about him, when he let it happen that the desperate wish to die finally got the upper hand.

7 – alone (44)
Smith was used to it to live alone on the roads, in the woods; sometimes he found an old shed or an abandoned house to stay there for a while, but never someone invited him to stay; as God's messenger he was nowhere welcome.

8 – help (39)
„No, Smith, no,“ Kurdy hold him back when he wanted to run back into the burning house,“ it's too late for every help“; for a short moment Smith tried to struggle free, then the roof crashed in with a thunderous noise.

9 – hug (93)
It had been a long, hard week and Smith knew, the things he had seen and done would haunt him in his dream for quiet a while; feeling helplessly he cursed God once agin for making him his messenger, it was too much, too much; but suddenly he felt small arms hugging him, a so famuiliar voice whispered:“Daddy, you are back,“ and he realized that no matter what he would have to go through, he would always stand up again and move on, for Rose and all the other children on the world.

10 – No! (66)
„No, no, no,“ Smith inwardly screamed when God told him about his next mission; he just knew, this could never end well; before the night would be over, people would be dead, good or evil, it didn't matter, because he would be responsible for it, and even if they would be buried and forgotten by any other, they would forever stay alive in his dreams.

11 – leave me alone (69)
Jeremiah huffed when Smith stepped closer:“You have no right to be here, so you should better leave me alone again before I let you pay for what you have done;“ the little guy bent forward to place the bunch of wild roses onto the grave before he answered:“No punishment you can think about could be as dreadful as the nightmares which haunt me every time I close my eyes.“

12 – betray (95)
Smith stiffened in every movement when he heard Libby's words; she was a friend, a confidant, she had never laughed about him; since she was in the Mountain his life had changed to the better; not only his life; never, never he had thought that Libby would be the one who would no only betray him but everyone in the Mountain; Smith closed his eyes and prayed:“God, what can I do, what can I do,“ though he knew he wouldn't get an answer, and that this, no matter what he did, would never end well.

More soon.
